Buckwheat hull pillows have been used for centuries in Japan and many Asian countries. Buckwheat is a fruit (fagopyrum esculentum), not a grain wheat. The hulls of the buckwheat are the husks that protect the buckwheat seed from the elements of Mother Nature. There is a very intricate process that goes into the de-hulling process. The buckwheat has three sides. Removing the seed from the shell should end up in two pieces. One piece should be one sided, and the other side of the seed should be two sided.

The two sided shell are called fluffy one, which adds for the best cushioning. We use the two sided shell with our organic buckwheat pillows, so our customer’s get quality and comfortable buckwheat hull pillows. All of our organic buckwheat hull pillows are 100% natural buckwheat hulls.

What Happens if the Buckwheat Hulls get soaked?

If your hulls are damp due to a dab of water or just a humid environment, then you can dry the hulls out in the sun safely.

When back sleepers are laying on their back, their pillows are not properly supporting the space beneath the neck, which causes muscle strains. The organic buckwheat hull pillows can fill that space allowing your neck and back muscles to be relaxed, and reduce any muscle strains.

Side Sleepers:

Side sleeping is the most common sleeping position. Sleeping on the wrong pillow can lead to serious back and neck pain. Traditional pillows collapse under the weight of the head. When you sleep on your side, your pillow needs to be thick enough to keep the spine straight. Having too thick of a pillow will bend the neck out of alignment, so the pillow should conform to your neck. The buckwheat hulls pillow are perfect for side sleepers, because they offer adjustable thickness, and they supply the support that the neck needs. Some side sleepers fold their pillow in half if their pillow is too soft, but this doesn’t allow the spine to be straight, which can lead to back and neck pain. The spine must be straight, so the back and neck muscles can relax properly.

Stomach Sleepers:

Stomach sleepers should avoid sleeping on their stomach. 1. I bought a long narrow buckwheat spine cushion at a large public holiday (crafts?) in San Francisco a couple of years ago. It was a good 30″ if not longer, muslin covering, then a removable zip cover over that of sturdy washable cotton. It was SO helpful to have one the full length of my spine that took it everywhere and eventually left it on an airplane, and was unable to retrieve it. Would you know where I might find one again?

  2. I have tons of pillows on my bed, but only use one. It’s be great find another brand that will foster a good night rest.

  3. Good morning I have two pillows made by Natures Pillows,Inc. with natural buckwheat hulls ; I have tried sleeping on them for a week and no matter how I set it under my head, neck , back or legs I wake up with stiffness. I do not have the zipper lined pillow covers so I do I get them I would like to know if that could help for the comfort of the pillow for a restful sleep. I do hope that will work because a regular pillowcase does not.
